Cowens Takes on the Edale Skyline for Maggie’s

On Saturday 13 September 2025, a group of us from Cowens pulled on our walking boots and headed into the Peak District to take on the Edale Skyline Challenge. It’s a tough 12-mile route with some serious climbs, but we did it all with one goal in mind: raising money for Maggie’s, a charity that means a lot to us.

Why Maggie’s?
Maggie’s is a brilliant organisation that supports people living with cancer, as well as their families and friends. Their centres are welcoming places where you can talk things through, get advice, or just take a moment to breathe when it all feels a bit much.
When we were choosing a cause to support this year, Maggie’s stood out straight away. Cancer doesn’t just affect the person who’s diagnosed — it impacts everyone around them too. That’s why the way Maggie’s focuses on people, not just treatment, really resonates with us.
They offer free practical and emotional support, whether that’s help with finances, guidance on treatment, or simply a safe space to sit quietly. Their people-first approach feels very close to our own values, and we were proud to take on the Edale Skyline Challenge in their name.

The Challenge
The Edale Skyline is no stroll in the park. The route takes in Mam Tor, Lose Hill, Kinder Scout and a mix of steep ascents, rocky paths and open moorland. It tested our legs (and lungs!) but also gave us some incredible views and plenty of moments to stop and take it all in.

The Team Effort
Our walkers on the day were:
David Carroll
Lorna Dalby
Stefanie Cockroft
Toby Chaplin
Lauren Carroll
We kept each other going through the climbs, cheered each other on at the summits, and shared plenty of laughs along the way. It really was a team effort from start to finish.

A Day to Remember
Looking back, the walk wasn’t just about distance or hills, it was about doing something meaningful together. Every step we took was for the people Maggie’s supports, and that gave us the push we needed when the going got tough.

Thank You
We’re hugely grateful to everyone who sponsored us, shared our fundraising page, or sent good luck messages. Your support means the world, and every pound raised will help Maggie’s continue their incredible work.

If you’d like to get behind us and help Maggie’s, donations are still open:-
